This weekend, our Creative team, lead by Senior Creative Director, Tristin Morrison, had the opportunity to prep and style the contestants for Miss Teen Canada World 2012 for the Ontario regionals. Tristin’s team pulled top talent from our Civello Salons, the Aveda Institute and head office to take this event by storm. Educators and stylists teamed up to provide the perfect pageant look for each and every one of the ladies – while Institute students had the opportunity to expose themselves to a high profile event and practice their techniques.
Aveda Canada took the opportunity to offer its services to promote these beautiful, educated and driven ladies whose platforms would simply blow you away! We’ve never seen such a hard working group of young women who want to make a positive change in this world. This experience was a testament to all that true beauty begins on the inside.

When they aren’t teaching our hairstyling students in class, they are performing the latest techniques in hair colour, cut and hairstyling teaching salon professionals across the globe. Follow some of Team Aveda Canada’s hair pros on facebook and twitter. Our students like them. We think you should too!
Nothing is worse than parched skin and chapped lips right? Our students agree. Aveda Institute students learn Aveda skin care essentials including factors affecting skin’s health. Cleansing and moisturizing with products that are appropriate for your skin type (dry, sensitive, normal, oily, combination) is key to a successful skincare routine. During dry Canadian winters even the oiliest skin types need some extra moisture.

Who said headbands were only for little girls? Headbands were one of the biggest style statements at last night’s Golden Globe Awards.
Cougartown star, Busy Phillips’ thin silver headband added an edge to her sky high beehive. Busy was right in keeping the rest of her ensemble paired down. Despite her large earrings, Phillips went with minimal makeup and white gown. Michelle Williams’ strawberry-blonde, pixie cut was cute and sophisticated at the same time. Williams paired her vintage Fred Leighton satin headband with an elegant and eclectic crushed blue velvet Jason Wu gown.
Although Michelle went home with a golden globe award for her work in My Week With Marilyn, the students in our hair program think the award for best headband goes to Charlize Theron who was shining in her nude & diamond ensemble. Her diamond-encrusted headband complemented her her side-chignon. Just like Busy, Charlize barely-there makeup let her jewels and gown stand out. Who was your favourite?
Did you catch the People’s Choice Awards? We sure did. Here are some celebs who were rocking our favourite hair trends that night.
SCARLET FEVER
Emma Stone is a hair colour chameleon. Her skin tone and green eyes make switching hues easy but we love that she’s gone red again.
If you’re not a red head by birth, red tones have a tendency to fade fast. To keep your colour vibrant our hair students learn to turn to Aveda’s Color Conserve Daily Color Protect.
OMBRE
We have to give props to Miley Cyrus, who is looking more lady like with every appearance. Miley keeps it young with a graduated colour look. Ombre was a hot colour trend for 2011 and some may say that ombre hair has seen it’s day but the subtle transition of the different tones updates the trend and ups the sophistication quotient of this trend.
THE LONG BOB a.k.a. THE LOB
Dancing with the Stars alum & country songstress Julianne Hough demonstrates the versatility of the lob. The long bob is a great option for those with straight to wavy hair textures. Our hair academy students are a big fan of this highly requested look. Perfect for those long haired ladies who want a change but don’t want to give up too much length.
